Tomatoes "Black Prince": features of the variety

Features of agricultural technology

The agricultural technology of cultivating tomatoes of the Black Prince variety is no different from the rules for growing other greenhouse indeterminate varieties.

Sowing rules

Seeds are sown in special planting containers with a height of 6 to 10 cm, filled with nutritious soil for garden plants,adhering to the following rules:

  • sowing seeds should be carried out in mid-March;
  • deepen the seeds prepared for sowing during planting should be 10 mm from the soil surface;
  • planting capacity should be covered with a film in order to create a greenhouse effect favorable for crops.
  • the first 10 days, it is necessary to maintain stable soil moisture (it is recommended to use a spray bottle filled with settled and warm water to moisten it) and the temperature regime at the level of + 23−25 ° С.

Diving seedlings and top dressing

Diving seedlings is carried out after the appearance of two true leaves, which is most often observed a week after mass seedlings. About two weeks after emergence, the number of leaflets does not have time to increase, but the seedling becomes more powerful and acquires a well-formed root system, which makes it suitable for a less traumatic dive into a separate container.

Two weeks after the dive, the first feeding should be carried out. The second fertilizer application is carried out after another two weeks. A complex mineral fertilizer containing superphosphate, urea and potassium sulfate is used for top dressing.

Landing in a permanent place

About two weeks before planting at a permanent place, seedlings should begin to be prepared for this procedure. It is very important to conduct hardening at this stage, which may consist in the daily removal of seedlings in a cooler room or a gradual decrease in temperature. Planting of grown plants in open ground or greenhouses is carried out no earlier than the beginning of May, when the return frosts are completely over.

The best predecessors for tomato bushes are cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, cauliflower, parsley and dill. "Black Prince" can be grown both in greenhouses, film shelters, and in beds in open ground. The soil should be supplemented with 2 tbsp. l superphosphate, 1 tbsp. l potassium sulfate, as well as half a bucket of coarse sand per square meter of landings. Planting scheme is 50x40 cm, while the maximum planting density must be observed (no more than three plants per square meter).

Care Rules

Only strict adherence to the right agricultural practices can achieve the best result and get ripe, juicy tomatoes.

Watering and feeding

Watering should be regular to prevent the drying of an earthen coma around the root system of the tomato bush. Tall tomatoes have a significant leaf surface, large flower brushes and massive fruits, which implies an increase in the volume of water used for irrigation. It is better to water tomatoes in the morning or in cloudy weather.

Topping up tomato bushes is an essential component of growing this crop. Root and foliar top dressing is recommended to alternate after two weeks. As fertilizers, you should use such preparations as "Humat-80", "Humat + 7", "Humat-universal", "Emerald", "Ideal", "Fertika-universal", as well as dung and humus.

Shaping and pinching

The first inflorescence in tomato bushes of this variety is formed above the 7–9th leaf. The height of the main stem can vary from 1.5 to 2 m, which suggests the formation of a single stem with the removal of all stepsons and lower leaves. It is also necessary to pinch without fail the growth point in the last days of the growing season.

Reviews gardeners

Many gardeners opt for the "Black Prince", as this mid-early variety does not need much pinching, It has an even and round shape, forms beautiful brushes and fruits, much harder in texture than many medium-late large-fruited varieties.

The fruits have a neat round shape, an unusual and rich coloring, a blackish-green spot in the area of the stalk. Dark longitudinal stripes diverge from the stem on ripe fruits. On the palate, such fruits are slightly sweet, without sourness, fleshy, but at the same time slightly watery.

How to sow tomatoes for seedlings

To prevent the loss of high-quality varietal characteristics, experts recommend growing the "Black Prince" as a monoculture, which will insure the plant from pollination and will allow you to get an excellent crop.
